Office of Labor-Management Enforcement
The Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) conducts both civil and criminal investigations of alleged violations of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA) and related laws.
These investigations by OLMS District Offices involve issues such as embezzlements of union funds, union officer elections, the filing of required reports by unions and others with OLMS, and the imposition of trusteeships over subordinate unions by a parent body. These investigations may result in legal enforcement actions.

April 12th, 2010 On April 12, 2010, in the District Court of Lenawee County, Michigan, Kimberley Smith, former Financial Secretary of Auto Workers Local 2031 (located in Adrian, Mich.), was sentenced to five days in county jail, 15 days at a work release facility and 2 years probation. Smith was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,951.87 and a fine of $450. On March 3, 2010, Smith pled guilty to one count of embezzlement of $200 or more but less than $1,000. The sentencing follows an investigation by the OLMS Detroit District Office.
